33 in 3: Complete Paul Strickland’s movie list

A few months ago I begged my friend Paul Strickland for a list of movie recommendations. Paul, a comedian/writer/actor/bad ass, has an impeccable and wonderfully eclectic taste in music, cinema and art, and I was in a bit of a movie rut. Off the top of his head, Paul scrawled this list for me, based on my request for bizarre, unique, and/or darkly comic films. Dan and I have already enjoyed a few of these (struck through below).

  1. My Winnipeg
  2. The Saddest Music in the World
  3. The Night of the Hunter
  4. My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done
  5. Stroszek
  6. M
  7. Vernon, Florida
  8. Tabloid
  9. Dancer in the Dark
  10. Songs from the Second Floor
  11. You, the Living
  12. A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence
  13. It’s Such a Beautiful Day
  14. Wings of Desire
  15. Paris, Texas
  16. Alice
  17. Synecdoche, New York
  18. Mister Lonely
  19. Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus

The list is a combination of documentaries, art house films and god knows what. I love it. My favorite so far: A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence. Due to some summer schedule madness, I’ve been remiss on working through the list, so I’m excited to add it to my 33 in 3 list so that I can focus on completing this great gift from Paul.

Hello, gorgeous.
